REINA

Germany 2020 – 18:55 min – Director: Ozan Mermer

Because Lola’s uncle is paying for her quinceañera, she has to help out for him with some other girls at a birthday party. In the dubious atmosphere of the event Lola soon has to realize that more is expected from the young girls here than just waiters.

Biography Ozan Mermer

Born and raised in Berlin. French and Turkish roots.
In 2011 part of the Berlinale Jury in the section “Perspektive Deutsches Kino”. Studies fiction direction at the renowned University of Television and Film (HFF) in Munich from 2012 on. His movies are shown worldwide on many (A)-festivals and win several prizes. In 2017 starts studying documentary film making at the reputable film school Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico-City. After finishing his feature documentary “Yib” he concludes his studies 2020 with the short film „Reina“.
Currently preparing his fiction debut and a TV-show.

HAVE A NICE DOG!

Trapped in Damascus, surrounded by war, a lonely man becomes increasingly lost in his fantasies of fleeing and the inner dialogues with his dog. A darkly fascinating animation allegory with music by Dascha Dauenhauer (“Berlin Alexanderplatz”).

Biography Jalal Maghout

Jalal Maghout is an animation filmmaker who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from the University of Damascus in 2010. He worked as a teacher at Damascus University until he left Syria in 2013. He went to Berlin and immediately started working on his animated documentary SULEIMA. The film about a female Syrian opposition activist was screened in many film festivals worldwide. In 2015 he started his master studies in animation directing at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. “Have a Nice Dog!” is his master graduation film.

Between the northernmost city in the world, on a long polar night, and a foggy summer morning in the south, a dream, with all of its doubts, takes place.

Biograph Eduardo Brito

Eduardo Brito works on film, writing and photography. He holds a Master’s degree in Artistic Studies – Museology and Curatorial studies – from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto (FBAUP), with the dissertation “Around the representations of the Museum in Fiction Films” and also a degree programme in Scriptwriting at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV, Cuba. Eduardo teaches regularly as assistant professor at FBAUP and at the Institut für Architektur und Medien of the TU Graz. He was project coordinator of Reimagining Guimarães, a photography, archive and curatorial programme developed for the Guimarães 2012 European City of Culture.
Eduardo’s works explore the connections amidst reality, fiction and memory, as well text-image relations.

Biography Ferdinand Arthuber

Ferdinand Arthuber was born in 1984 in Munich. During his studies at HFF Munich he participated in the advertising masterclass and worked as an author and director for several production companys.
GIRL MEETS BOY is his graduation film.

A diver swims through a deep, abstract underwater cave. He encounters a group of others, among which he finds his own counterpart. After passing through his reflection he is able to emerge from the endless ocean. An exuberant animation miniature by Till Nowak (“The Centrifuge Brain Project”).

Biography Till Nowak

Till Nowak is a filmmaker and digital artist, born 1980 in Bonn, Germana. He graduated 2005 in media design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and runs his own animation studio framebox. He is now based in Los Angeles and works on his own projects besides studio productions such as Disney’s “The Lion King”, Marvel’s “Black Panther” or Locksmith Animations “Ron’s gone wrong”. Tills works won more than 80 festival awards, including Annecy, Aspen, Moscow, Anima Mundi and AFI Fest.

PODESTA ISLAND

According to Google Earth, Podesta Island exists. According to Wikipedia, it does not exist. This portrait of a controversial phantom island juxtaposes documentary sources with narratives and legends inspired by the island. Where does the truth lie? Somewhere in between?

Biography Stéphanie Roland 

Stéphanie Roland was born in 1984 in Colonia, Micronesia. She is a Belgian-Micronesian artist and filmmaker. She studied media arts at ENSAV – La Cambre (Brussels) and at the University of Arts (Berlin). Today she is an artist at Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains and realizes new projects. She has won an impressive number of awards and grants.
